Junior Olympic Developmental Program (JO) is also known as the Olympic Developmental Diving Program. It is a competitive diving program for all athletes who are looking for a sport to participate in. This program is designed as a long term diving program for young athletes that may have several sports in which they are proficient.
The major objectives of this program are performance excellence and keeping a balance between the challenge and fear inherent in a sport of aerial/spatial orientation. One meter is the only event in the program and is for children in all age groups. Heights above one meter will be discouraged if not prohibited.
This program offers basic to advanced skill progression. No experience needed.
Athletes will begin at the lowest level of basic skills and progress at their own individual pace. The objectives of this program are excellence and skill mastery, development of spatial orientation, mental and physical coordination, and increasing the athlete's attention span. The sport of diving encourages mental focus and concentration, and will teach the athlete to meet each task and objective in pursuit of established goals.
This program teaches athletes attention to detail, competition with one's self to improve skills, and over time, the formation of self-discipline.
How the Classes Work:
Registrant chooses days of the week for participation (example: once a week on Wednesdays, or twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays )
Instructors are responsible for the progress of the assigned athletes in their class.
Age, skill level, and competitive desire are considered before assigning athletes to an instructor.
Maximum number of athletes per day is 12.
The instructor divides the class into smaller groups and assigns each group to follow a 20-minute per station routine. Each class the instructor may vary the order of the stations to vary the routine.
Athletes progress at their own pace, learning each basic skill one at a time, building a foundation so that each layer is clearly defined. Mastery is the objective.
There are 3 stations, each for a 20-minute period and consist of various basic skills:
- dryland gymnastics
- trampoline
- diving on 1M board
Missed Classes:
If an athlete misses their assigned day for whatever reason, they may phone the office to arrange a make-up date.
Make-up dates can be any other day of the week as long as the instructor's assigned number does not exceed 12.
Instructors fill in a daily work plan before each days practice so that equipment management is maximized.
Attendance is taken and the program supervisor assigns assistant instructors to the various stations depending on the number of athletes in attendance.
